According to Major General Vladyslav Klochkov, Russia is currently field-testing a new, lethal drone, the MS001, powered by Nvidia’s Jetson Orin AI. This drone, described as an autonomous combat platform, utilizes the AI to independently identify targets and adjust its trajectory, bypassing most existing air defense systems. The MS001 is reportedly working in coordinated groups for maximum impact, persisting even amidst Ukraine’s best anti-drone efforts. Klochkov emphasizes the need for accelerating the development of Ukraine’s own drone capabilities in response.
Despite Western tech sanctions intended to restrict Russia and Iran’s military threat, the use of Nvidia technology in the creation of the drone shows these sanctions have not been completely effective. Nvidia has clarified that the Jetson Orin is a consumer-grade product meant for students, developers, and startups, not available in Russia and not designed for military use. This alarming application of technology marks not the first-time Russian drones were suspected to utilize Nvidia’s tech. Ukraine’s Defense Express site previously reported that the Nvidia powered “smart suicide attack unmanned aerial vehicle with artificial intelligence,” the V2U.
